Created by the Content Management License Administrator (CMLA) and the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), the CMLA-OMA DRM scheme was developed for use specifically with mobile devices.

CMLA-OMA is useful for enabling DRM on mobile Android devices that do not natively support Widevine Modular. It is also useful for enabling protected MPEG-DASH streams on iOS devices which Apple’s native FairPlay Streaming does not currently support.

In addition, CMLA-OMA can be used for 360 degree video or VR applications where, for example, transforming the video surface is restricted with Widevine and would need an alternate software DRM solution to be facilitated.
